UWB-Based Safety System for Autonomous Guided Vehicles Without Hardware on the Infrastructure

Automated Guided Vehicles (AGV) are unmanned transport vehicles widely used in the industrial sector to substitute manned trucks and conveyors. In order guarantee safe operation, AGVs must be equipped with a safety system stop their movement presence of obstacles or humans path. This work presents novel for that is based on Ultra Wideband (UWB) technology. Unlike previous works UWB Real-Time Location Systems (RTLS), proposed does not require installing hardware plant's infrastructure. Instead, AGV sensors capable locating tag person mobile asset. simplifies deployment solution enables its use dynamic environments. The was mounted an designed by company ASTI Mobile Robotics. Dynamic measurements showed accurately mirrors relative between tag. Furthermore, employs method post-processing ranging data. Measurements this improves accuracy system, resulting more homogeneously distributed positioning error around room.
